In an older post a discussion was brought up talking about the South being as relevant as the East Coast. But more specifically what city is the most relevant today, regarding Hip Hop. Is it still New York? Obviously, Jay is still relevant. I'd say Fabolous is relevant. I haven't heard from 50 in a while. Jadakiss is still nice but...idk. I'm sure I'm leaving out a couple, I can't think of anyone else though. So is it ATL? Luda, Gucci, Jeezy, T.I., 3000. Sh*t, that's a pretty nice starting 5 I must say. What about H-town tho? Scarface is bout to drop an album. Bun B is doin his thang. I wish I could count Wayne and Drake but I can't. And as much as I love Zro and Devin I can't compare them to the aforementioned heavyweights. As much as I love Houston rappers, they are still underground in comparison. F*** it, they UGKs though. So although I set out to prove that H-town is the new Rap City, I gotta give it to ATL for now. Dammit.
Help me out though, I may be overlooking some people or other cities. (Detroit? New Orleans? Chicago?)
I would also love to say Houston, but, I cannot. Lol. Bun B, Devin the Dude, Z-Ro and Scarface have all been holding it down for the H, but they can't compare to the plethora of super-artists coming from Atlanta. Atlanta has been the hottest city in rap for a minute. They own the rights to probably 50% of the rap game right now: Jeezy, T.I., Outkast, Ludacris, Gucci plus a lot of R&B artists, making other rappers gravitate to ATL to record. I can't even say another city is comparing to Atlanta right now...
